They say education is the backbone of society. When a city has a poor education system it fails, cities with excellent education systems thrive and grow, Detroit being no exception. In this education section of our page we will be focusing mainly on Detroit's more recent education issues, although the school board dates all the way back to 1847, in keeping with the theme of the page we will talk mainly about recent issues. The following sub-pages are meant to shed light on the history of Detroit's education system, and also inform you of just how intertwined education is to the success of a city. The following sub pages will (in order) talk about a brief history of the system and the things that built up to slowly cause its problems over the years. Then we will focus on the issues in encountered during the rescission and how education played a part in the rescission. Finally we will focus on how the education system is improving and where its headed in the future.
