Eminem changed his drug addiction to exercise addiction. At first he would try to work out with Dr. Dre, but he would life "kiddie" weights compared to him. He decided to run instead because he felt cardio was more important anyway, especially while preforming on stage. He eventually fell in love with "runners high" and lost all of the weight he put on during his drug abuse stage. He started eating healthier and became happy with his life again. Then he found motivation to pick up the pen and rhyme again.

Eminem's Impact On Detroit
Eminem is not only one of the biggest Hip-Hop stars of all time, he is one of the greatest musical artist of all time. Owning countless awards and records from his amazing career, he is one of the biggest things to come out of Detroit ever. He has given the city of Motown a new chapter in its musical history. Although Detroit is a predominantly black city and Eminem was white, the city loved him. He came from a black neighborhood and lived the same lifestyle that most Detroiters had to go through. They respected him. They were able to relate to him and his music. Fellow Detroit rapper Marv One said "He came from us. He was one of us. We saw him go from being a person we'd see every Saturday at the hip-hop shop to the biggest star in the world. What he did was awesome."
His story has given the people of Detroit hope and motivation. He has shown them that it is possible to become successful even if you're from the darkest depths of Detroit. In his song "Beautiful" he raps,
"Nobody asked for life to deal us
With these bulls**t hands we're dealt
We gotta take these cards ourselves
And flip them, don't expect no help
Now I could have either just
Sat on my ass and pissed and moaned
Or take this situation in which I'm placed in
And get up and get my own".
Referring to the citizens of Detroit to stop feeling sorry for themselves and to have a surge of resilience instead. He helps the city in other ways besides with his music and fame. He has his own charity work called "The Marshall Mathers Foundation" that assists disadvantaged and at risk youths in Detroit. Although Eminem is seen as a bad guy to the media and parents, he is a hero to the city of Detroit. And when the city is reborn and gets out of the hell its currently in, they will look back on the impact Marshall Mathers has left on one of America's most beautiful and historic cities, Detroit.
