Jobs
Obviously talking about bringing back jobs to Detroit is easier said than done, so bare with me, I have some ideas. The natives of Detroit as previously mentioned know how to work with their hands and they know machinery for the most part. There is so much potential in the city of Detroit but nobody wants to invest in it. There could be hundreds maybe even thousands of jobs available if perhaps more farming was done. People love fresh produce with all these funky diets and cleanses being done, and who doesn't love supporting local farmers. Granted it would be difficult in the winter months, but I know for a fact that it can be done. These people who lost their jobs years ago when the Big 3 left and they are so used to physical labor that I feel like farming would be much easier for them. Plus, they wouldn't need to have a great education. There is so much barren land that even a group of 10-15 men and women could produce some amazing and delicious fruits and vegetables. Yes, it does take more than just physical labor to keep up with a farm but after a couple of months or years working hard and putting in some solid blood, sweat, and tears it could actually pay off. If people created a steady work environment like that I'm sure more people would be likely to stay and some could actually move to Detroit if they knew there was potential for jobs.
Possibilities
With farming could come even more jobs. They could sell their fresh, local produce to grocery stores. On the other had though there are other possibilities to increase population and jobs. If their was something that everyone loves that is there obviously people would want to come and visit or even live their. Developers need to look into a certain generation. Personally, when I think of Detroit I now think of hipsters, or free spirits. Detroit is very artsy and could really make a great living place with the right touches, I see the population growing more and more every year (I hope). The reason why I think that hipsters and free spirits would fit in there is because its very old and antique. Then again anybody who loves art or antiques would love Detroit. But there are other things that could bring other types of people in, like children. An amusement part in Detroit would bring in an immense about of money. Yes, it does cost a lot of money to create an amusement park, but its possible. Anything is possible, we just need to be the ones to start the change.
